What is the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides support for Australians who are under 65 years old and have a permanent and significant disability; that is, a disability that is likely to last for your lifetime and that affects your ability to complete everyday tasks.
In Victoria, over 100 000 people benefit from participation in the NDIS — for 40 000 of those people, this is the first time they have received the support services they need. We are happy to be a small part of that here in Berwick.
The scheme is implemented by the National Disability Insurance Agency, who help participants develop an NDIS plan that details your personal goals, aspirations and any support you need to get you there. Participants may only require support in certain areas of their life — travel, for example, or employment and community activities — while others may need more assistance to improve the quality of their everyday lives.
As time passes, your NDIS plan will inevitably change. Having a support coordination expert on your side will allow you to allocate all your funding properly, manage what services you need (and what ones you don’t) and connect you with Berwick service providers.
Need Help With Your NDIS Plan?
To access the NDIS, you will need to apply to the National Disability Insurance Agency. Once accepted as a participant, you will work with the agency to come up with a plan that details your goals and the support that is needed to help you on your journey.
If you are having trouble with your NDIS application or want more information about the services and funding that will be available to you, our local area coordinator for Berwick will be happy to take any questions you may have.
Gentle Care Support Services offers a wide range of support services for people in Berwick. We prioritise a kind and caring approach that gives the power to NDIS participants and helps them achieve the goals that they have chosen.
We also offer early intervention services that can help to reduce the impacts of a person’s disability and help them to build the skills and confidence they need to achieve their ideal lifestyle.
Home care services
We have home care services for all levels of assistance. Whether a participant just needs help with tasks around the house or requires full support on an everyday basis, we can match you with a local Berwick carer that will be able to meet your needs.
We can facilitate recreational and civic activities in a community setting to give NDIS participants the opportunity to build and refine social skills, as well as provide opportunities for people to get involved in the Berwick community.
To get the most out of your NDIS services, we can provide a support coordinator that will help participants and their families with the more complex aspects of the NDIS. When it comes to managing funds, we can ensure that you know what the best use of your money is to get the best assistance possible.

For people living with disabilities in Berwick, there are many things that you should know and that are going to help you be able to achieve great results in the end. With the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, all persons with disabilities should confirm whether they qualify and get registered to receive services that are going to help them lead better lives than they have been living for a long period of time. NDIS has been made possible with the help of state and national governments with the aim of helping people who have permanent and significant disabilities to be able to meet their needs and also access any special equipment that they need.
To begin with, if you are disabled and would like to get NDIS support, you will be required to visit an agent within Berwick in order to come up with a planning meeting. Once you opt to visit to get NDIS support, they are going to help you plan your meeting which is going to help you determine the best day when you can meet and discuss your needs. You will have to make sure that everything is filled and the right details from the start to the end. It should provide you with the right information regarding the kind of disability you have and how you would like to be supported.
You will also be able to discuss in the meeting about what you really need in your plan and how you intend to meet such needs. There is nothing more important than making sure that you set goals that are realizable and that are not going to leave you worried about how to go about them. Even though the plan that you make is personalized, it is always good to set goals that are within your abilities and that will not lead into disappointments later in the process of implementing them.
When the plan is approved, it will run for a period of 12 months unless there is significant change in your life that requires a review of your support earlier than expected. The good thing about NDIS is that is personalized to meet your needs easily and when things are not working the way they should, it will require you to visit the NDIS representative to help you be able to determine what needs to be changed in order for you to get things working the right way for you without much of a problem. It should be able to serve you well if not perfectly.
You will also be required to visit the representatives once more six weeks before the plan expires to allow you to be able to review your plan for the coming year. Here you will review how the plan has been working for you over the last year and what you would like to achieve over the next year. You can set new goals and try your best to implement them without much of a problem. Basically, NDIS is meant to offer people living with disabilities to lead life more independently without any issues and minimal reliance on others around them.
