What is the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides support for Australians who are under 65 years old and have a permanent and significant disability; that is, a disability that is likely to last for your lifetime and that affects your ability to complete everyday tasks.

In Victoria, over 100 000 people benefit from participation in the NDIS — for 40 000 of those people, this is the first time they have received the support services they need. We are happy to be a small part of that here in Auburn.

The scheme is implemented by the National Disability Insurance Agency, who help participants develop an NDIS plan that details your personal goals, aspirations and any support you need to get you there. Participants may only require support in certain areas of their life — travel, for example, or employment and community activities — while others may need more assistance to improve the quality of their everyday lives.

As time passes, your NDIS plan will inevitably change. Having a support coordination expert on your side will allow you to allocate all your funding properly, manage what services you need (and what ones you don’t) and connect you with Auburn service providers.

Need Help With Your NDIS Plan?

To access the NDIS, you will need to apply to the National Disability Insurance Agency. Once accepted as a participant, you will work with the agency to come up with a plan that details your goals and the support that is needed to help you on your journey.

If you are having trouble with your NDIS application or want more information about the services and funding that will be available to you, our local area coordinator for Auburn will be happy to take any questions you may have.

People living with disabilities are normally left feeling left out when visiting different parts of the city and also when accessing basic facilities that should rather be easy to gain access to. As for this reason the national government and the local governments have partnered to make sure that their needs are well catered for and are addressed in the right manner. Though many of them are always afraid of seeking help as they feel as not being part of the community that they live in, it has now been made easier for them to access such facilities with little to worry about. With the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the disabled are going to benefit by getting such services.

The national government has made it easier for people living with disabilities to be able to access services much better and within the right means. If you register for the NDIS program you will be able to gain a lot of benefits in Auburn without any problems. Some of the things that you should know about the program are discussed below and if you are disabled or living with a person who is disabled, the benefits are endless and are going to change the way that you live.

One of the major benefits is that you will be able to have a personalized program that is going to ensure that you are able to do things like any other person without any disability. Generally, the aim of the government is to make sure that every person comes up with their personal goals and needs that they want to meet by the end of the year. You will have to visit a NDIS agent who has been licensed to offer such services to come up with your goals and plan on how you intend to meet them. You will create it and have to implement it all year through.

In the event that you do not have the right facilities that will enable you to be able to function the right way, they are going to make sure that you get funds to be able to buy them and use them. This will and is a one-off kind of plan to make sure that you do not encounter any problems. Most of the time, people are unable to afford such equipment and the only way to live is living without them. By the help of the national and local government you can now be able to access them much more easily.

Through the program as a person living with disability you will be able to live an independent life without the fear of being left out. Most of the people living with disabilities normally depend on other people to be able to love their lives normally but with the introduction of this program, they now have the right to lead normal lives with minimal reliance on other people. It aims at making sure that you will no longer rely on others to lead a normal life which is an added advantage to most people.
